Copyright notice for the Northern District of the State of New York, under Merryweather’s name. Something of a black book of English royal crimes (the alien House of Brunswick comes in for much ironic comment) and the perfidy of the Conservative governments of Britain, from this emigrant Englishman resident in America. Merryweather would appear to be at least a fellow-traveler with the Chartists, with substantial material here on mechanization and the plight of operatives, as well as taxation and debt; Merryweather gets an extensive and favorable notice of his book in the February 9, 1839 number of the Leeds Chartist newspaper, the Northern Star.
