Thirteen Years' Experience in the Itinerancy . . . Fifteenth Thousand.

Philadelphia: Methodist Episcopal Book and Publishing House, 1881. A later printing of a later edition of this popular Methodist work. 8vo, original brown cloth, gilt lettering, 454 pages. Frontis portrait, single plate. Tender along the gutter of the title page; a couple of signatures a little sprung; a very good copy. Item #11326

Originally intended as a history of Philadelphia's Plank Church (which had been built from scratch in ten days in 1853), and published to raise funds for a shortfall in the budget for the recently completed Hedding Church, the account grew to encompass the life, conversion and itinerant preaching history of the Methodist circuit rider Andrew Manship. With much on his travels and labors in Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania. The view of the Plank Church is clean and sharp. Cf. Kaplan 3716 (noting the 454-page edition of 1864).
