Some indication of the perennial difficulties faced by these organizations, Sprague takes John 12:5 and preaches at length on the justice of giving to missionary societies and kindred organizations. "An objection not infrequently urged against the general object for which I am pleading, is, that it is by no means certain how these charitable contributions are applied; that they may, or may not, be appropriated to the objects for which they are solicited," etc. American Imprints 14185.
