Madras: C. L. S. Press, 1923. First edition. 8vo, original pictorial wrappers (wrapper title, "Telugu Mission"), 110 pages. Frontis, numerous plates. Some chipping, soiling and wear, with loss of about an inch of paper at the head of the spine; a little shaken; a good, sound copy. Item #11669

A report from the American Baptist Telugu Mission, with much on current conditions in India; the mission's report includes harsh words for the 1922 non-cooperation campaign: "The forces of lawlessness and anarchy set in motion by the preaching of Gandhi and his followers were steadily gaining strength and getting out of hand. . . . On the 10th of March, 1922 Gandhi, the 'Dictator', was arrested at Ahmedabad and after a swift trial was sentenced to six years imprisonment. This decisive action, striking at the very root of the agitation, immediately restored confidence in the Government."
