Cerro Gordo, Illinois: J. O. Barnhart, 1926. First edition, signed by the author on the verso of the frontispiece. 8vo, original printed wrappers, 86 pages. Frontis portrait, two plates, illus. A little worn and soiled; a very good copy. Item #11985
The Brethren minister from Cerro Gordo (a small town east of Decatur, Ill.) here weighs in with verses on a variety of topics. There is much of course that is devotional, but there is also verse of local topics (including a romantic-tinged meditation while standing atop an Indian burial mound near Monticello) as well as an entertaining "Christmas Greetin'" addressed to James Whitcomb Riley. With extensive corrections in the text in the author's hand; small piece of sheet music by Barnhart laid in.
