Remarks on the Reverend Mr. Emmons's Dissertation on the Scriptural Qualifications for Admission and Access to the Christian Sacraments; and on his Strictures on a Discourse Concerning the Church.

Boston: Printed at the Apollo Press, by Belknap and Hall, 1794. First edition. 8vo, unbound and stitched as issued, 86 pages, untrimmed. Unopened. Light damp-stain to the lower margin throughout; a little worn and soiled; a very good copy. Item #12410

A lengthy discourse from this Maine clergyman and Harvard classmate of John Adams. Hemmenway was fairly well-known and respected, though an article about early ministers in Old Wells, Maine, notes (somewhat ruefully), "he was too improvident of his family's education for places of distinguished usefulness, and too indifferent to the style of his personal appearance, and also to the hour of his own appointments." A later owner has supplied the publication date in ink in arabic numerals in a neat hand at the foot of the title page. Evans 27710.
