Boston: American Tract Society, 28 Cornhill, [ca. 1869]. Perhaps a later American edition with a notice on the verso of the title page "Reprinted from the London Religious Tract Society," though the relationship to the American Sunday-School Union work of 1834 with the same title is unclear. 16mo, original purple cloth, gilt lettering, 64 pages. Frontis. A small faint damp-stain to the upper margin of a few leaves; some spotting; a trifle faded and rubbed; a very good copy. Item #12848
Three stories for children, "The Magician Fish," "A Gathered Blossom," and "Jan Harmsen, the Dutch Orphan." The first story involves a family spending the day helping an antic crew of Italian fishermen at the seashore; an electric torpedo ray is hauled in with the catch and provides the children with a valuable scientific lesson on the wonders of creation. With a neat pencil gift inscription dated March 10, 1869 on the front free endpaper; the American Tract Society published at this Boston address between 1842 and 1869.
