A charming little example of the intersection of social life and faith in late 19th century America, Mr. Chestnut wood addresses Mss Huggins in a round, clear hand and asks her to accompany him to church: "I have come to the conclusion that it would be the proper thing for me to go to church once in awhile, provided that I do not go alone. . . ."
