Historic Doubts Relative to Napoleon Buonaparte, and Historic Certainties Respecting the Early History of America.

New York: Robert Carter & Brothers, 1856. A later edition; the first combined edition appeared in 1853. 8vo, original blind-stamped brown cloth, gilt lettering, 184 pages. Chipped at the head and foot of the spine; a trifle foxed; a very good copy. Item #13883

From the eventual Church of Ireland Archbishop of Dublin and philosopher Whately (1787-1863), the first part is an elaborate satire meant as an attack on Hume; the second part (written with Fitzgerald) seems like an obscure extended jeu d'esprit in the form of an Old Testament Chronicle. Cf. Sabin 32048.
