From the lawyer and publisher Cox (1809-1879) comes this hybrid mystic-scientific examination of sleep and dreaming. "Cox was also a believer in spiritualism and published his ideas in studies such as What Am I? (1873) and A Monograph of Sleep and Dreams, their Physiology and Psychology (1878). He established, and was the president of, the Psychological Society of Great Britain. . . . This collapsed on his death and was dissolved on 31 December 1879. Some of those who had belonged to it were among the founders in 1882 of the Society for Psychical Research" (DNB). With preliminary ads for Cox's publications and a final leaf of ads for the Psychological Society, with an application for membership.
