An interesting collection of material relating to an Independence Day celebration in Germany to commemorate the dedication of memorial plaques to four stalwart American authors; the proceedings include the lyrics to the hymn "America" and an address (in German) from Rhode Island native C. C. Plehn. Also includes a note (in English) from Bismarck, regretting that despite his acquaintance with Motley and Bancroft, he will not be able to attend the ceremonies.
