N. p. [Sidney, O.?]: n. p., 1847. Unbound bifolium, approx 10.5 x 8 inches, 1 printed page. Printed lodge seal. Autograph integral address and postal cancel on the verso. Some soiling to the verso; a little light foxing; in very good condition. Item #15479
An uncommon, interesting and visually compelling relic of the contemporary tensions between religion and fraternal organizations, calling for various lodges to gather for an emergency meeting on May 13: "Brethren, we have a strong opposition to contend with here--one of the prominent Churches having taken ground against us, and recently dismembered two of our Order for their adherence to our beloved Institution; besides the opposition of many others--and it is therefore necessary to have as large a 'turn out' as possible. We believe that a Celebration here, if rightly conducted, will be conducive to great good." Signed in type by J. Hailman, R. Rodgers and C. Edwards. Some light smearing to an autograph word (apparently repeated for the sake of legibility).
