Stirring campaign literature for the officers and board of this early San Francisco library (established in 1854), with Wadsworth running for president and Talmage for vice president: "Remember that this is an honest, open, *Industrious,* *Energetic,* *Persevering,* *Indomitable,* but truly *Independent Rivalry* for the great interests we all cherish; which have been labored for through four successive years, by several of our number, who regard this Institution as *a child* of their adoption." Dated in type 19th January, 1857. Includes instructions on how women might subscribe to the library and themselves vote or assign a male proxy.
