Boston: Published by G. N. Thomson, 1838. First edition of Knapp's biography of this notable eccentric. 12mo, original embossed cloth, gilt lettering, 108 pages. Cloth somewhat worn; some foxing throughout; a good, sound copy. Item #15908
The eccentric self-styled Lord lived in Newburyport, where he died in 1806; his success in commercial speculation allowed him the resources to indulge his crotchets, such as erecting a great hall surrounded by garishly painted statues of notable figures, to stage his own lavish funeral (while still living) and to appoint a poet laureate.
