A short note, date-lined, "'National Military Home.' Ohio, Hosp. War 2. *A satisfactory home. Jan 3, 1900,* 10 a. m." To his grandchildren, noting that he has already sent them a view of the cemetary and the monument but that these are not visible from his wing of the hospital (which he has marked and labeled in red ink on this map). "Tell Grandma that I hope and expect she is well -- as I am at present -- *some little ailments,* but not serious -- no sore toes or feet. -- doing well."
