The Millennial Harbinger: A Monthly Publication, Devoted to Primitive Christianity . . . New Series — Vol. II.

Bethany, Va. [now West Virginia]: Printed and Published by A. Campbell, 1838. First edition, an ex-library copy. 8vo (gathered in sixes), original quarter calf, marbled boards, gilt lettering, 574, [2] pages. Some foxing; spine somewhat rubbed, corners and edges a little rubbed and bumped; a very good copy. Item #16489

The annual file for 1838 of this monthly from the founder of the Disciples of Christ; the volume includes of course theological argument, but there is also much in the way of news from other churches, largely from Kentucky, Ohio, and further outposts in Indiana, Illinois and Missouri. This volume includes Campbell’s address to the students of New Athens College (likely Franklin College in New Athens, Ohio) and to the Florence Academy in Washington county, Penna. Embossed stamp of the Christian Foundation on the title page (with an autograph “Withdrawn” note over that) and the small ink stamp of Cotner College, the now-defunct Disciples of Christ school in Lincoln, Nebraska Cotner College (the last class graduated in 1933) to the inner margin of the second leaf. Two small somewhat later ink corrections in the text, three instances of discreet marginal notation.
