A fine sentimental molded Union case, manufactured by the successors to Critchlow, the design taken from a Currier lithograph after an illustration by Frances Flora Palmer. Here, a small child chases a butterfly in the foreground of a bucolic scene, with trees, livestock, a farm house, farm hands, and a distant steeple in the background. Krainik 8: “American Country Life is regarded by many as one of the very finest case designs. . . . Rare.” Some rubbing to the flat empty field of sky and delicate butterflies on each panel; plastic rubbed away from the small brass bosses on each panel; some light chipping and wear to the edges and one latch. Small bit of the mat a trifle crimped.
