Zion’s Harp; a Selection of Spiritual Songs and Hymns, Designed for the Use of All Religious Assemblies where the Songs of Zion are Suitably Introduced . . .

Pittsburgh: Printed by Cramer & Spear, 1830. Second Pittsburgh edition. Small 8vo, original calf, 128 pages. Boards somewhat bowed, somewhat rubbed; somewhat foxed; a good, sound copy. Item #17806

An uncommon Cramer imprint, the words only (no music) of an interesting hymnal; the selections at first glance do not seem to suggest translation from the Zion’s Harfe (the Apostolic Die Kleine geistliche Harfe der Kinder Zions, published in Germantown by Billmeyer in 1803, etc.). With an early ink ownership signature to the front free endpaper, “Susan Hall’s / Indiana.” OCLC notes three locations for this 1830 edition (Iowa, Drew, Eastern Mennonite). OCLC notes a 144-page edition under the same title printed in Pittsburgh in 1827 at Duke and the Clements only. Abrasion to the front paste-down, with traces of ink—suggesting an early attempt at erasing earlier ownership inscriptions. Upper edge of the front free endpaper clipped; rear free endpaper neatly excised.

Price: $225.00
