Clothing: A Handwoven Approach From Warp Threads to Finished Garments using cotton yarns.

(Sherman Oaks, California: Grandor Industries), 1979. Third printing; first printing in 1978. Original staplebound pictorial wrappers, [3], 40 pages. Illus. Mounted warp and weft yarn samples to page 4. Some light wear and toning, with a small spot to the front wrapper; in very good condition. Item #18246

Inscribed in autograph ink by the author on the title page, “Happy weaving! Barbara Hamaker.” Typed note signed in autograph ink by Hamaker mounted to the inside front wrapper. Contemporary bookplate on the inside front wrapper. A charming work of late 1970s craftiness, from the secretary of Hollywood graphic designer Saul Bass and his partner, Herb Yager. (Hamaker thanks them in her acknowledgements for having “put up with me being their secretary when all I really want to do is weave.”) The designs here are similarly of their period, echoing perhaps Moosewood cook book or the Vegetarian Epicure, and include that staple of our 1970s mental handmade clothing landscape—the weaver’s smock.
