Prophetic Conjectures on the French Revolution, and Other Recent and Shortly Expected Events . . . the Second Edition.

Philadelphia: Printed by William Young, No. 52, Second Street, 1794. Second Philadelphia edition in English; a London edition appeared in 1793. 12mo, 19th century half calf, marbled boards, black morocco label, gilt lettering, 96 pages. Foxed; calf and board edges rubbed; some wear to the edges of the text block; a good, sound copy. Item #18712

A popular work meant to demonstrate the divinely foretold and anti-Papal origins of the French Revolution. Besides the London edition, a Baltimore edition also appeared in 1794, as well as a 1794 Northampton edition (styled the third edition) and a German-language edition published by Sauer in 1794—all suggestive perhaps of the heterodox American religious strain susceptible to prophetic significance. Evans 27565. Early autograph pen test (block letters mimicking the title) at the head of the title page.
