(New York: Chas. Eisenmann), [ca. 1870?]. Albumen photograph measures approx. 3.5 x 2.25 inches, flowers highlighted by hand in pink ink, gilt border on a slightly larger mount. Eisenmann imprint in gilt on the verso. A little soiling and some rubbing to the edges; in very good condition. Item #18736
An attractive sideshow studio portrait of a popular Barnum attraction, sold under the Eisenmann name, though the portrait is annotated on the verso in pencil, “Hannah P. Battersby Age 26 weight 720.” (The age likely wrong, since Hannah Perkins had been born in 1836 and didn’t marry living skeleton John Battersby until 1870, aged 34; 1870 is also the approximate date of Eisenmann’s earliest studio photos in the Bowery.) The Eisenmann slug on the verso notes “Extra inducements to the Theatrical Profession.”.
