Philadelphia: Gedruckt bey Jacob Meyer, 1810. First edition in German. Original stiff salmon wrappers, 5.38 x 3.5 inches, 36 pages. Woodcut title-page vignette by Alexander Anderson. Front paste-down lifting. Some toning, light foxing and light soiling; a very good copy. Item #19079
The German translation of The Dangers of the Street, and Other Tales (Philadelphia: Jacob Johnson, 1808); wagon, oxen, and horses seem to figure prominently in the title story. The woodcut vignette of the dog with its tail tied to a tablecloth (suggesting the expected chaos soon to follow) has a certain lively charm. Added ink autograph title to the front wrapper in an early hand, “100 Dangers of the Streets.” Arndt 1770; Rosenbach 418; Welch 431.
