Carlisle [Pennsylvania]: Gedruckt fur der Verfasser, 1826. First edition. 12mo, original sheep spine, marbled boards, 164, pages. Fragile spine slightly cracked but sound, with a small chip at the foot of the spine; board edges rubbed; cheap paper foxed throughout; a good, sound copy. Item #19775
The first edition of what seems to have become a moderately popular German-American home herbalist pharmacopeia; the OCLC entry quietly emends the title-page spelling here of haus-arzeneybuch to haus-arzneybuch, which may create some mild confusion among those searching for copies. American Imprints 26020; Arndt 2793: “Attributed to the press of Johann B. Moser and Gustav Sigismund Peters, Carlisle, Pa., on the basis of typographical evidence.” Early ink ownership signature the front free endpaper; 20th century ownership in ink below that. Not found in Cordasco.
