Published the same year as the founding of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions, this volume published as a subscription volume by the divinity students at Andover, including the pioneering missionary Adoniram Judson Jr., and characteristic of the contemporary movement toward American foreign missionary work. This volume includes much on early English Protestant missionary efforts in Africa and India, including letters from journals, public letters, accounts from Hindu converts, justifications for foreign mission work, etc. Errata slip tipped in to the verso of the title page, with the request to the reader “to correct with his pen the following, which are the principal errors, before he reads the book.” (An early owner of this volume has done this in contemporary autograph ink.) Early ink signature of Clement Weeks at the head of the title page. American Imprints 19803.
