The Shepherd Boy.

Northampton: A. R. Merrifield, 1842. A later edition of this evergreen chapbook and tract verses. Original printed pictorial yellow wrappers, 4.13 x 2.63, [8] pages (numbered [3]-10). Woodcut illustrations. Some light soiling and wear; in very good condition. Item #20088

"Once more I quit my wint'ry bower. . . ." An oft-republished set of verses on the piety of a simple shepherd lad, each publisher seemingly illustrating their editions with whatever arresting vignettes happen to be at hand; this chapbook edition includes two nice small sheep, something akin to the lark mentioned in the text, and an appropriately bucolic ancillary goat on the title page, but also a fine large cut of a trotting horse, a cut of the Good Samaritan on the front wrapper, and a cut of St. Paul's cathedral.
