New Year’s Address to the Patrons of the Rhode Island Sun. Jan. 1, 1863 [caption title].

[Providence: L. P. Clarke, 1862]. First edition. Broadside, 9.88 x 6.5 inches. Item #20163

“For our country and our flag, / For their strong arms never falter / And their brave hearts never lag. / They are wounded bleeding dying / By the Rappahannock’s tide, / And its wild dark waves / Are wailing out / A dirge for those who died.” A carrier’s address influenced by the recent Battle of Fredericksburg, calling for support from men of the North against the Southern traitors. Publisher information taken from the catalog records at Brown, who seem to hold the only copy of this address and the only file of the evidently short-lived Rhode Island Sun.

Price: $350.00
