[Mount Pleasant, Ohio]: Printed by Elisha Bates, Mountpleasant Ohio, [1819?]. First edition. 8vo (7 x 4.25 inches), contemporary sprinkled calf, 102 pages. Edges a bit rubbed; some light foxing throughout; a very good copy. Item #20310
With a contemporary ink inscription from an unknown Meeting to the front blank, "This Book belongs to the Cleark of the Preparative Meeting." An early imprint from the Ohio Yearly Meeting and the press of Elisha Bates. This Discipline includes mounted cancels to two page and three printed extracts from later Yearly Meetings (1821, 1830, and 1836) pasted onto rear blanks. The mix of typefaces and leading throughout suggests either evolving states of the published Discipline of the O.Y.M. (with revisions made to standing plates) or perhaps simply a somewhat cobbled-together job in an early Ohio print shop. American Imprints 48052; Morgan, Ohio Imprints, 40.
