A Universalist preacher and his travels from 1840 onward. Though considered primarily an Illinois book, Manford's preaching took him through Indiana with frequency and he recounts a trip on foot from from Matagorda to Houston during the days of the second presidency of Sam Houston during the Texas Republic. Ante-Fire Imprints 1230; Howes M-250; Buck 358: "The book contains considerable theology but also much insteresting descriptive matter and local data." Ink gift inscription dated 1871 on the front free endpaper.
