The Utilisation of the Sewage of Towns. John Parkin, M. D.

The Utilisation of the Sewage of Towns.

London: John Churchill, 1862. First edition. 8vo, removed pamphlet (no wrappers), viii, 60 pages + 7 pages of ads. A trifle dust-soiled; a very good copy. Item #7740

"It may, perhaps, by considered by some persons that the present is not a very pleasant, or a very delicate subject to discuss." A presentation copy, with an ink inscription on the half-title to the exclusive Whig club in London, "Brooks's Club / Presented by The Author." Given memories of the food shortages of the 1820s and 1840s, as well as the cotton shortage occasioned by the Civil War, English agricultural experts were not above revisiting the use of human waste to increase agricultural productivity. Includes ads for other reforming works by Parkin. With the erratum slip tipped before the half-title.

Price: $125.00
