London: James Brown, . Stated second edition; the first appeared in Glasgow in 1857, perhaps without the second essay. 8vo, unbound as issued, 30 pages. A little soiled and darkened; a very good copy. Found in the 1857 edition only (at CtY) on OCLC. Item #9563
A presentation copy, inscribed in ink at the head of the title, "To Geo. Cruikshank Esq., with the Author's kind regards." The Scottish attorney and antiquarian (and critic of Ossian) here collects two brief essays, one on the nature of evidence and knowledge, the other on the nature of memory. It's unclear what connection Roger (1820-1899) has to the illustrator aside from his name, though he was born when George was first making a name for himself with his work for Hone.
