Newark, Ohio: Star Publishing Steam Print, 1885. First edition. 8vo, original printed blue-green wrappers, [23] pages. Fore-edge of the front wrapper torn with some loss, with some tearing and snagging to the fore-edge of the first couple of leaves; some dust-soiling and additional wear; a good, sound copy. Item #14491

An uncommon publication from a reforming organization backed by progressive lawyers and churchmen alike; the title page is here transcribed to include the corporate author, though the catalogued record on OCLC (which notes three locations, all in Ohio) gives only the perhaps misleading title Recent divorce statistics: address before the Ohio Divorce Reform League delivered at its first annual meeting, December 6th, 1884, by Rt. Rev. G. T. Bedell--when in fact the statistics and the address from the Episcopal bishop Gregory Thurston Bedell are two separate articles entirely, as of course are the address by R. A. Harrison before the state Bar Association, the extract from Gov. Hoadly and the organization's three resolutions. This copy with the vontemporary blue ink inscription at the head of the front wrapper, Wallace H. Cathcart, presumably the bookseller and eventual president of the Western Reserve Historical Society. (Given the traces of blue ink offset on the verso of the rear wrapper, the pamphlets were presumably addressed by the League for distribution among prominent figures in Ohio.).
