Suggestive of the relationship between free thought and progressive causes and the practice of phrenology, a monograph from the ex-Carbonaro and 1830 revolutionary, and former head of the Phrenological Society. He here argues for the moral and ethical boons of phrenological science. With the large library stamp of the Salon de l'Établissement Thermal de Vichy to the front wrapper and an inside leaf (this latter stamp with the blue ink stamp "Vente du 22 Avril 1876").
