London: Published by David Nutt, 1893. First edition, the English issue, apparent large paper copy, of Carman's first regularly published collection of verse. Large 8vo, original blue cloth, gilt lettering, 120 pages, rather crazily untrimmed. Cloth somewhat faded, especially the spine; corners a bit bumped due to the flimsy untrimmed margins; a few spots of foxing; a very good copy. Item #16402
How aesthetic can one get? Though this London edition has the hallmarks of a large paper copy--generous margins, leaves of irregular sizes--it appears that perhaps the entire Nutt edition was so published; still, it towers over the American trade edition by about 1.25 inches and certainly has an attractive Nineties look to it. Cf. BAL 2617, which notes that the "London (Nutt) edition was printed from the same setting as the New York edition."
