Philadelphia: Private Edition, 1870. First edition. 8vo, original green cloth, gilt lettering, 108 pages. A little rubbed and soiled; some internal toning and dust-soiling; a very good copy. Item #17420
A presentation copy, inscribed in pencil on the front blank, "Ephraim M. Huntington from his affectionate friend the Author." A series of analytic-lyric essays tending to reconcile science to the Gospel (the book commences with a lengthy argument on the nature of logic and mathematics), with glances on the merits (and demerits) of fiction, poetic interludes, etc. Contemporary press notices seem to have been polite and a revised edition soon followed.
