With much in the way of tabular data on the demographics of the delinquents (43 American born delinquents in 1858, 47 Irish born), education levels, crimes committed, sanitary condition of the homes from which the children had been taken, etc. The school takes a progressive approach, dispensing with corporal punishment: "Those who have been long accustomed to harshness and abuse become so habituated to it that punishments, which partake of that character, cease to have any influence over them; and it is only by the power of love, winning and subduing their hearts, that they can be brought to yield to wholesome restraint."
