Each number of this quarterly (for 1866) and eventual semi-annual (for 1867) songster serial of music for sabbath schools and children’s classes had a separate title; subsequent numbers had titles such as Linnet or Cardinal. This inaugural number includes a story in song about a child match-seller on the streets of the city, as well as a song from the perspective of a freed slave, “The Freedman’s Appeal.” A couple of small marginal paper repairs to the title page. Contemporary ink ownership signature on the front free endpaper.
