The first compilation of these two English pieces. Didactic to a high degree, the “Happy Boatman” being a tale of an industrious and honest ferryman on the Thames. The fine emblematic frontispiece (Wisdom at the gates of the Holy City) signed in the image J. W. B. (John Warner Barber, per Welch). Welch 822; American Imprints 2135 & 2136. Nice early ink ownership inscription dated 1824 on the blank verso fo the frontispiece. Small annotation to a woodcut of two horsemen on the verso of the rear wrapper, glossed in an early hand “go ahead”.
