Harrisburg, Pa. Printed and Published by Gustavus S. Peters, 1833. Fifth edition. Original grained sheep spine, marbled boards, 5.75 x 3.5 inches, 107, [1] pages. Decorative type borders. Some light rubbing and some light occasional foxing; a very good copy. Item #19873

From the press of G. S. Peters (who was to become a pioneer in American color printing), this a handy little forms book for the non-lawyer, with examples of forms ranging from promissory notes to conditions of public vendue, with mortgages and wills among the standard examples. The pages appear to be reset since the 1829 second edition (the earliest edition seen for comparison). Dates from 1831 through 1833 are used in the sample texts, as well as names that sound very much like Harrisburg locals—Jacob Young, Thomas Rupp, Hiram Worstell, etc. With attractive decorative type borders to the forms and the occasional small bit of display type. With a contemporary pencil note of provenance dated 1834 in the rear blanks. Not found in American Imprints.
