Springfield [Mass.]: Printed by Henry Brewer, Jan. 1807. A later American edition. Contemporary sheep spine, marbled boards, 5 x 3.13 inches, 107, pages. Some rubbing; a little toned; a very good copy. Item #19876
An attractive later edition of this popular (or at least oft-republished) work for children, which first appeared in London in 1789 and went through a number of American editions through the first two decades of the 19th century. With an attractive ad on page for the printer Henry Brewer, “Printing in various branches neatly executed . . . Books—Pamphlets—Handbills—Blanks—Cards &c. &c. at the shortest notice.” Contemporary ink ownership inscription to the front free endpaper. The spine leather here was not trimmed with much finesse and thus sits rather lumpily under the paper of the boards.
