A popular book from Howland, this version in an attractive striped publisher's cloth with additional decorative detail (an embossed frame plus gilt-stamped ornaments, the lithographic frontispiece) likely meant to help the volume stand out in the stationer's shop. A later owner has added a small neat ballpoint date of 1850 to the yellow coated front free endpaper.
