A Course of Fifteen Lectures, on Medical Botany, Denominated Thomson's New Theory of Medical Practice . . .

Columbus [O.]: Published by Jarvis Pike & Co., 1835. An early edition of this popular work. 12mo (5.38 x 3.5 inches), contemporary (likely original) sheep, red morocco label, gilt lettering, 205, [3] pages. Some light sunning and wear; one of two gatherings a trifle sprung but neatly reinforced with a couple vernacular stitches through the spine; a little cockled and foxed; a very good copy. Item #20311

First published in 1829 in Columbus, O., based on a series of lectures delivered in Cincinnati, and the earliest known work in support of the populist Thomsonian botanical medicine system. Evidently expanded over the earlier 162-page editions. This edition with the printer's slug for Jonathan Phillips on the verso of the title page. Small quarter-inch tear from the fore-edge of the final three leaves, with loss of a few letters of text (but no loss of sense). Atwater 2994 (this edition); Morgan, Ohio Imprints, 2921.
