Constitution and Laws of The Boston Marine Society, Instituted in the Year 1742; Incorporated in the Year 1754.

Boston: Marden & Co. Printers, 32 Congress Street, 1840. First edition of this occasional report of this early charitable organization. 24mo (6.13 x 3.81 inches), original marbled wrappers, 53 pages. Stitching perished but pamphlet complete; some light foxing and slight wear; in very good condition. Item #20482

A token of the importance of maritime commerce in New England, a charitable organization founded as an association of sea captains to share navigational information and provide relief for widows and orphans. These occasional reports evidently first published in 1792. This version brings the financial reports up through November 5, 1839 and lists the officers elected for 1839-1840. OCLC locates an 1837 version from the press of Marden & Crawford, then an 1842 version from the press of Samuel N. Dickinson, but not this one. With a small neat errata slip mounted to the inside front wrapper (correcting inter alia the exaggerated report of the death of Lawrence Lawrenson).

Price: $100.00
