A badge for a Blades, Delaware chapter of a racist labor organization, founded in 1840s Philadelphia at the cusp of contemporary Nativist political movements like the Know-Nothings, a Masonic-inflected secret society meant to promote hiring native-born White workmen—as well as provide the more mundane sickness and funeral benefits of kindred lodges. The society hung on through at least the early 20th century, suggesting the currents of racial discontent were evergreen.
