The Works of Aristotle, The Famous Philosopher: In Four Parts . . . A New and Improved Edition.

London: Printed for Miller, Law, and Carter, and Sold by all the Booksellers, [ca. 1830?]. 12mo (5.63 x 3.5 inches), contemporary sheep, 310, [1], [1] pages. Engraved frontispiece, engraved title page. Illus. in the text. Joints cracked but three (out of four) cords holding; a good, sound copy. Item #22498

The unsigned frontispiece to this issue is a completely different engraving from the one dated 1822 in the British Library copy of the 310-page edition of the Miller, Law, and Carter version of the Aristotle. (Wisdom disrobing in front of Aristotle in his study here exposes only the merest of bosom above the Empire waist of an otherwise chaste shift, suggestive of a certain gentility lacking in earlier versions.) Engraved title with the imprint, Printed for J. Urquihart. With a colophon on the final printed page, Printed by Dean & Munday, Threadneedle-street. See Atwater 126 & 128 for other versions of Miller, Law, and Carter editions of 216 & 300 pages.

Price: $250.00
